A well-known community member in Kamloops is suing his former employer.
Bryce Herman was terminated from Chances Casino on July 31 from his contracted position as marketing and public relations manager. He had worked for the casino since the fall of 2002 in a role that evolved over time to his latest position title, and had earned $4,500 per month since 2006.
In a lawsuit filed last month, Herman alleges his contract was ended early and was supposed to last until his retirement on Dec. 23, 2021. He is seeking $135,000 in damages for lost wages and damage to his reputation.
Herman alleges the general manager of Chances, Robert Case made humiliating comments about him, and says he learned his termination was coming from BC Lottery Corporation CEO Jim Lightbody, during a conversation at a public event in Kamloops back on May 3. He says the conversation happened in front of his daughter and says it caught him off guard.
In a legal response filed last week, the company that owns Chances Casino, Enterprise Entertainment, says there was no such agreement to keep Herman employed until his retirement. It also says it never spoke publicly about Herman’s anticipated termination.
The company is opposing having to pay damages to Herman and is seeking legal costs associated with the lawsuit.
None of the allegations made have been proven in court.
