It was a busy Thursday for first responders in Revelstoke with three vehicle accidents and an injured hiker, all in the span on a few hours.
Mounties say the first incident happened around 1:50 p.m., along the Trans-Canada Highway, 33 km west of Revelstoke. A westbound passenger car stopped due to traffic congestion and was rear-ended by a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was treated for non-life threatening injuries, and there were no charged laid.
Ten minutes later, around 2 p.m., a 26-year-old Saskatchewan man fell a considerable distance when hiking near Begbie Falls. Search and rescue crews, volunteer firefighters, and police all responded to the incident.
RCMP note the man lost his footing near the bank of a waterfall and fell, landing at the base of the falls. He had to be carried up the cliff on a backboard before being taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
At 3:30 p.m., two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision along the Trans-Canada Highway, about 11 km west of Revelstoke.
An eastbound Toyota SUV crossed the centre line and collided with a westbound Mercedes SUV, pictured below. The 58-year-old driver of the Toyota was issued a ticket for driving without due care.
“Revelstoke RCMP would like to remind motorists to be cognizant,” said Cpl. Thomas Blakney, in a release. “Especially at this time of the year as highways and roadways are busier than normal, and traffic congestion is to be expected.”
