B.C.’s Attorney General says he’s still concerned that there isn’t adequate oversight into money laundering and other issues that involved federal co-operations.
Despite findings earlier this year that no police resources are committed to fight money laundering, Dave Eby says he still hasn’t heard back from the feds on how resources will be used.
“A gap in policing around this continues to be a concern for our government. And I hope it’s a concern for the federal government. I have yet to from them, information about how they’re coming forward with additional resources to deal with the money laundering issue in terms of policing in our province, which is quite startling given the amount of time that has passed.”
Eby made the comment while speaking about alleged corruption at the Hastings Race Track, following a raid there by the CBSA last week which came about eight months after a whistle blower shared concerns with Eby’s office.
In June, the federal government committed $10 million to prosecute money laundering.
