While fees for public boat launches have been floated in Kamloops, city staff say there is no plan to bring in such a fee anytime soon.
Speaking NL Newsday, civic facilities manager Jeff Putnam says a user-fee system for boat launches would be re-invested in those boat launches, but he says the option is still a ways down the road.
“It’ll be something that will be discussed. We haven’t discussed it yet, and I want to assure the public that it’s not really a major component of the study, but it’s something that needs to be considered,” Putnam says.
“Especially if we want to make significant improvements for the benefit of the users, often a user-pay system is a good way to go. But again, that’s something much further down the road, something we’re not actively looking at.”
Staff are in the process of a study to identify ongoing maintenance for public boat launches, which Putnam says should be at council in about two months.
Some members of city council have advocated for paid parking at boat launches and recommend that money be put back into boat launches.
