We’ve recently seen people get in trouble with the law for posting illegal stuff on line and one lawyer thinks these people are literally asking for it.
Whether it’s speeding recklessly through traffic or feeding bears, some people just need to share their bad decisions with the rest of the world.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Acumen Law’s Paul Doroshenko feels some folks think they’re above the law. “The funny thing of course is that they think they can defy the law and then they post it on social media.”
“The next issue is while enforcement officers are looking at this and thinking to themselves, okay, we can identify this person. They’ve just posted it. They’re committing an offence, why don’t we take action on it?”
He says posting something illegal on Youtube makes it easy for police to identify someone because they identify themselves.
Doroshenko added people not only have to watch what videos they post of themselves doing something wrong, we also have to watch what we say when commenting on someone else’s account as with a woman recently caught in a racist diatribe in a Richmond parking lot. “Clearly the police have said that there’s no charge going to be laid against that woman who made those comments.”
“But, you know I haven’t looked at what people have said about it but I’ll bet there’s all sorts of things that are on the verge of being threatening and it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s charges that arise from that.”
