An Ontario based ride hailing service has applied to open in Kamloops and it has already starting taking driver applications.
The President of U-Ride says its looking to launch in Kamloops in the very near future. It has applied to open in the city and Cody Ruberto says the hope is to have the application approved in about eight weeks. Ruberto says they have opened up the hiring process and believes it won’t be as big of a hassle to find class-4 drivers as other companies have complained about. “I followed up with my driver recruitment team and they’ve told me, they’ve been speaking with applicants and it really hasn’t been a major thing. It’s just about letting people know ahead of time so that they can take the 2 or 3 weeks to go through the process and actually get this done.”
Ruberto says when it opened in Thunder Bay, Ontario about two years ago, it took about four months to achieve their 10 minutes or less response time, but he has been very happy with how operations have gone since that time. “In the beginning, we had some hiccups just trying to get enough drivers and keep up with demand and make sure that supply and demand is balanced and ensure that pick up time of under 10 minutes. We are really excited with the way things have been going lately.”
He says that the plan is to open up shop here in Kamloops as soon as possible. “I’ve been told by the BC government that it’s going to be 4-8 weeks until our license actually gets approved. So, as soon the government gives us the okay, if we have enough drivers with their class-4 ready to go, we would launch immediately after.”
Those looking to apply can do so here.
