Merritt RCMP are asking people who were victimized by a 40-year-old man to come forward.
Sevim Zakuti – who also goes by Sebastian – was arrested on Thursday in the Lower Mainland, and is charged with a number of crimes, including forcible confinement, sexual assault, choking to overcome resistance and uttering threats.
Zakuti and another unidentified man are believed to be responsible for various violent acts in the Merritt area since early August.
“Several local people approached officers regarding two men, however witnesses were fearful to go on record with what they had seen,” said Cpl. Chris Manseau, in a release. “With time and support from local agencies, the RCMP has moved the investigation forward to the point of charge approval against one of the men.”
Investigators say they’re aware of several other people who were victimized. Police say Zakuti was also recently in the Kamloops and the North Okanagan. He was often seen driving high end luxury cars registered in BC and Ontario.
People who have been victimized are asked to call the Merritt RCMP detachment at 250-378-4262 and request to speak with an investigator.
