Mounties in Chase say a man in Scotch Creek chased people off a property with a shotgun in hand on Saturday afternoon.
Corporal Scott Linklater says police were called to a Shuswap property on Hilliam Road after 2 p.m. to reports of shots fired, and he adds police are familiar with the property.
Police have not explicitly said if shots were fired, but say “a loud noise resembling a gun shot was heard coming from within the home.”
Linklater says the report came after a group of people visited the property and confronted people regarding stolen property, which led to people being chased off the property by a man with a shotgun.
Police from Chase and Salmon Arm, as well as the Southeast District Emergency Response Team, responded to the incident, and Linklater says upon arrival the suspect with the shotgun had already fled the scene.
“The Chase RCMP are always concerned when people decide to bypass law enforcement and take matters into their own hands. Not only is there a concern for their personal safety, there is a risk that investigations can be jeopardized and key evidence can be lost,” Linklater says.
No charges have been laid in connection to the incident and Mounties continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Chase RCMP.
