A student at Sa-Hali Secondary School will not be facing charges after making a threat against the school on Snapchat.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says they were able to identify the student in question, and made contact with her and her parents this morning.
“She admitted to posting the message, and had not realized that what she thought was an innocent play on words could be deemed as an actual threat to the school and the students,” Shelkie added. “Through these talks with her and her parents, and school authorities, we were able to determine that the social media post was not a credible threat.”
Shelkie says police wants students to know that they take every threat made on a school very seriously, and they’re urging parents to remind their kids what the consequences could be of making such a comment.
“It takes a tremendous amount of resources to react to these threats and to investigate the source of the threat,” Shelkie noted.
