With the federal election being called this week, every candidate is weighing in on some of the more controversial topics on Canadians minds.
The Trans Mountain pipeline remains one of the hot button issues as we head toward October 21st.
While appearing on the NL Morning News, Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo incumbent MP and Conservative candidate Cathy McLeod, stressed how important the project is to our area.
“From my perspective, this pipeline is absolutely critical,”she said. “It’s the safest way to transport our product to market. We don’t need anything in terms of our rail, we need to get this pipeline built. We need to get our product to market.”
She also pointed to the on going ownership questions around the pipeline.
“I certainly know there’s a lot of interest from First Nations in terms of buying into the project. I think that piece needs to come down the road in terms of who is ultimately going to buy this and what that will look like but first of all we need to get it built.”
Running against McLeod is Liberal Terry Lake, the Green Party’s Iain Currie, Ken Finlayson with the People’s Party of Canada, Kira Cheeseborough with the Animal Protection Party of Canada, and Peter Kerek with the Communist Party of Canada.
