Update –
Kamloops RCMP and School District officials say a bomb threat painted on Valleyview Secondary school was not a credible threat.
Assistant Superintendent Bill Hamblett says the graffiti that said “find the bomb” was discovered by the principal this morning on the west side of the building.
He says classes were not disrupted as police investigated.
“We communicated that to parents, students, and staff. Certainly, the school district takes all threats to school seriously,” he said. “We work closely with the RCMP to respond to threats of this nature. We have school and district safety processes in place to ensure the safety of students and staff in our buildings.”
Hamblett says he’s urging parents to speak to their kids about the consequences of making such threats.
“When students – I’m assuming it’s a student who did it – maybe I’m incorrect, but when people post messages whether online or on buildings like graffiti, that’s inappropriate and can have some consequences for our whole community,” Hamblett added. “Not a good idea.”
He’s also urging parents and students who might have some information about the incident to report it either to the school district or the RCMP.
“When students are impacted by these types of events, school and district personnel provide emotional supports needed to ensure all students feel safe and manage their responses to these types of incidents.”
