The Assistant Superintendent for the Kamloops-Thompson School District says there’s nothing to suggest that threats at two different high schools were connected.
Bill Hamblett was speaking after a Snapchat video threatened Sa-Hali Secondary last Wednesday, and a graffiti bomb threat caused some concerns at Valleyview Secondary on Friday.
“I can’t speak to any specifics but again we are urging our parents to discuss this type of behaviour with students,” he said. “Sometimes young people don’t make the decisions you and I would. We want to reinforce that message that you wouldn’t do this in any public building whether it’s a school, an airport, or a hospital.”
“We want people to report it, if they hear of a threat or a concern at a school.”
Both of the threats were found to be not credible, and Hamblett was asked if he is concerned about a spike in threats to local schools?
“I don’t have any information that would indicate that it’s increasing or anything like that,” he responded.
Hamblett says the school district has emotional supports systems in place to ensure that all students feel safe and in the event of these kinds of incidents.
