The mayor of Clearwater says he expects some of the $69 million in provincial funding announced this week to address forestry woes will be going to his region.
Merlin Blackwell says the funding announcement is good news but he also hopes there isn’t a lid on it, with more shoes likely to drop with B.C. mills.
“It’s actually surprisingly a lot of the things that we, Clearwater, had actually asked for. The transition of workers funding the bridge to retirement. The wildfire fuel management is one that we had pushed for really hard. Because Clearwater I think is ranked number-four on the list for that, and Wells Grey Park, which is our other major industry here, severely needs that work done on it.”
Blackwell says the federal government will also need to get on board at some point, for issues around EI and severance packages.
