The BC Wildfire Service and the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band are expected to carry out a prescribed burn in the Spences Bridge area beginning today.
Information officer Taylor MacDonald says the burn will be about 12 hectares in size, which is expected to last two weeks and will likely be visible from the Trans-Canada Highway.
“It’s located southwest of the community of Spences Bridge, I’m not exactly sure on the exact proximity to any structures and buildings, but I’m sure it will be fairly visible,” MacDonald says.
“It is that time of year where we’re starting to see some cooler conditions that allow us to take on these kinds of projects.”
The wildfire service has done several prescribed burns this month, with the fire danger rating now at ‘low’ or ‘very-low’ across the Interior of B.C.
