The Kamloops Blazers and BCLC will be providing 1,000 tickets to this Friday’s (Sept. 27) game against the Kelowna Rockets to staff, students, and families of people affected by the fire at Parkcrest Elementary School.
The tickets will be given to the Parkcrest Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) who will in turn distribute them.
“There’s about 350 kids, and then of course, you have all of their parents,” Blazers President Don Moores said, on the NL Morning News. “Of course they’ve moved over to George Hilliard School but there were kids going to George Hilliard and they’ve been misplaced as well. So we’re going to bring them to the game as well.”
He says there will also be prizes courtesy of BCLC that will also be given out that night.
In addition, the 50/50 proceeds from that night will also be donated to the Parkcrest PAC to help fund new sports equipment.
“They’d already started school. Everybody had already paid for their school supplies, and you know, they’ve got all kinds of equipment in there and they’ve lost everything,” Moores added. “You know I can remember last year when we were on our run, I think the 50/50 got pretty close to $50,000 so I think this could be a great night for them and great night for everyone.”
Moores says the Blazers reached out to the Principal at Parkcrest Elementary after the fire, asking if there was anything the team can do to help.
“Schools are such an important cornerstone of every community – and supporting B.C. communities is at the heart of everything we do at BCLC,” added BCLC’s Interim President and CEO Greg Moore, in a release.
“We are proud to partner with the Blazers to offer the countless teachers, students and families affected by the tragic fire at Parkcrest Elementary School with a fun night out of hockey – while also raising funds to help replace much-needed sports equipment.”
Puck drop for this Friday’s game against the Rockets is at 7 p.m.
