An Okanagan man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in the killing a tourist from Belgium last summer.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sean McKenzie from Oliver will be sentenced in November, after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of Amelie Sakkalis.
On August 22, 2018, the body of Sakkalis was found near Boston Bar off the Trans-Canada Highway. McKenzie was then charged with first-degree murder in September of last year.
It’s believed Sakkalis, who was 28 at the time, was hitchhiking from the South Okanagan to the Lower Mainland before she was killed.
