The BC Agricultural Exposition Society is hosting its 2019 Expo this weekend at the North Thompson Agriplex in Barriere.
Society President Evelyn Pilatzke says 4H members will be coming from all over the province to show off their projects. “Free admission, so everyone is welcome. It’s accessible to all, they just have to come out. Typically the show starts at 9:00 or 10:00, but we have our full schedule on our website bcagexpo.ca.”
Pilatzke says it’s the biggest event of the year for these 4H members. “Our fair is mostly about the 4H individuals that are coming from all over the province. And they’re going to bring their 4H projects to show and compete over the three days. And on the Monday, we’re going to have a live auction and that’s where they’ll be selling their market projects.”
Yellowhead 4H Club Member Riley Knoll says it’s the biggest event of the year for them with the majority of the 60 member group set to attend. “It takes a lot of work to bring your animals to the fair. So for my sheep I have to halter break them at the beginning of the year. And then wash them, dry them, card them and then clip them so they’re ready for the show.”
The projects like sheep, goats, cows and even photography will be shown off during Friday through Sunday before before being sold off on Monday. There is also a big educational component to the event with a number of groups setting up booths and displays.
