The Kamloops Blazers and BCLC helped raise over $8,000 for students and staff affected by the Parkcrest Elementary fire at last Friday’s hockey game.
Principal Catherine Gorman says 900 Blazers tickets were distributed, and the Sept. 27 game raised $7,400 from the 50/50 draw and another $680 from donations.
“We’ve already put that to good use,” she said, on the NL Morning News. “My vice-principal Grant Naylor has already ordered volleyball standards and a volleyball. We’re going to get started with that hopefully next week.”
In addition to the monetary contribution, Parkcrest kids were also on hand to sing the national anthem at the game, along with taking part in the ceremonial puck-drop.
Gorman says insurance will help replace most of what was lost in the fire on September 5, but she says she appreciates the support from the Kamloops community.
She adds there have also been donations of books and other supplies that have come in from across the province, and school officials are grateful for that support as well.
