Kamloops City Council is moving ahead with an inter-community business license that would allow companies to operate in multiple municipalities within the TNRD with one single license.
Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian says it just makes good sense. “Would allow you to apply your trade as it were, wherever you were within the TNRD. It makes a lot of sense and there’s certainly some deferred revenue from some communities, but by and large I think it’s going to make it smoother for business and that in turn makes them more profitable and makes better employment opportunities.” He says having to get multiple licenses can be a waste of time. “So that if you’re a painter and you’re located in Chase, then you would have to get a business license in Chase and you would have to get a business license in Kamloops and if you had a job in Barriere then you had to get a business license there. So it’s expensive and time consuming.”
Christian says it would make life easier for business owners who work and operate in different cities throughout the district. “Really just affecting those people operating a mobile business. So generally trades people primarily. So I think that it’s going to improve the regional economy and I think it’s a good move.” He believes Kamloops is the 3rd community to adopt this and hopes all other communities in the district adopt this before the end of this year.
