The city is looking to the public for feedback before moving ahead with approving the new Recreation Master Plan.
Kamloops Supervisor of Recreation, Health and Wellness Linda Stride says it’s important for citizens to have their say and help shape the plan will guide the next decade.
“We’re really looking at people to come out and say, are we on the right track? Did we hear you initially?” she said.
“If people who did complete the survey or were part of the open houses in the engagement process, have we heard you? And have we captured most of the feedback initially and are we on the right track?”
Stride says the consultants have helped identify needs, but the public will have a significant impact on what is in the plan.
“Our citizens who help us, the city, prioritize the future of recreation in our community and that might be service delivery strategies,” she added. “So what we’re doing in the way of programming and services, but also in the way of infrastructure.”
Stride says in its initial conversations with the community, a new Performing Arts Centre was the number one need identified when it comes to infrastructure.
“And so you have to remember arts is part of recreation. Recreation is a broad term for arts and culture and sport and physical activity and all of that. SO it does encompass the arts area as well. That was the number one. And in addition to that we do know we have a gap in aquatics.”
The first session Wednesday October 2nd from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Sports Centre Lounge on McArthur Island. The second session goes Thursday October 3rd from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Heritage House located at 100 Lorne Street.
