The Artistic Director for the Western Canada Theatre says everyone is excited to return to Sagebrush.
The facility has been closed since February 15th after a crack in a roof truss was discovered. James MacDonald says although they love the Sagebrush, it might be time for an upgrade. “It is another thing that just suggests to us that, we love the Sagebrush we love doing performances in there, but the infrastructure is getting older. The repairs will need to be kept up. The idea that we’re able to replace this infrastructure with a new performing arts centre is something that we’re very much behind at Western Canada Theatre.”
Despite that, MacDonald says they’re ready to get back in there and adds that when he picks a show, he takes the stage that they’ll be on into account. “When I chose Dracula, ironically one of the set pieces in Dracula is that the roof caves in on the performance, so maybe I cursed it by choosing the show. But I chose the show thinking that it will look really great in the Sagebrush.” MacDonald says also fits the time of year. “It’s always nice to try and match something up and people are getting into a bit of a Halloween spirit. Particular thing about this production of Dracula is that is does tell the story of Dracula, it follows the narrative quite closely, but it’s a comedy, it’s a spoof, it’s a parody, it’s a farce. It’s told from the perspective of Van Helsing who everybody knows is a great vampire killer.”
Dracula: The Bloody Truth will run from October 10th to the 19th.
