The soap opera with the province over cannabis revenue sharing continues with still no clear answers in sight for municipalities.
Kamloops city councilor Mike O’Reilly was on the NL Morning News and said it’s hard for the city to move forward when they don’t know what’s happening.
“It’s very frustrating at the municipality,” he said. It’s hard to plan around. You know it’ll be another six months, another six months. Well you know at the end of the day we have to budget for that and we have to pay for it and that ends up coming up in taxes to the average homeowner in Kamloops instead of being covered by the province as it was intended to do.”
He said it just continues to the be same old, same old from the province.
“In the same breath we’ve been hearing that we’re hoping for a deal in six months for the last year and this is something that we are waiting on that the city of Kamloops is spending tens of thousands of dollars to process these applications and make sure that things are legal but we aren’t seeing any money coming back.”
O’Reilly added without an official deal in place it’s hard to say if there will be any retroactive money coming.
“I mean it’s purely speculation, I wouldn’t expect that but I don’t know. It’s really up in the air and the province is holding their cards close to their chest and that’s how they’re going right now.”
Mayor Ken Christian previously told NL News that he’s hoping to have a deal in place by December.
