With less than two weeks to go to the federal election, the Executive Director of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to another all candidates forum in the city tonight.
Acacia Pangilinan says Kamloopsians will be able to ask questions of their local candidates, and get some answers on where they stand on the various issues.
As for her thoughts on last night’s leaders debate?
“All I really felt was ‘wow, I think some people need a lesson in manners you know?” she said. “You don’t have to speak over somebody and I know you are fighting for air time, especially right now, but give people their opportunity to speak and try not to be so rude to speak over them. So hopefully that doesn’t happen tonight.”
Pangilinan says government regulations can impact the various interest of chamber members, and so they’ll be watching with a keen interest.
“We’ve been polling our members for months on what issues are impacting them the most. They are telling us that it’s getting expensive to run businesses and taxes are really hard for them to manage their bottom line,” she added. “So I think tonight, we’re going to be bringing forward a question around that, just to see where they stand around supporting small business and what kind of tax incentives or programs they have.”
She says the Chamber represents a variety of people across the political spectrum.
“Just because you know there is that mindset that because your in a business, you have to be this way, I think we are really seeing that change, as more and more different types of people are entering business,” Pangilinan added.
“We have to be non-partisan. We have to work with whoever is in government. For us, you know, it’s really important that we hold who ever is in power accountable to small business.”
Tonight’s forum is between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., at the TRU Grand Hall. It is being presented by Radio NL and Kamloops This Week. If you can’t be there in person, Radio NL will be carrying the debate live, here: goo.gl/B296iV
