Authorities are looking for information after a bull moose was shot and killed east of Merritt.
Conservation officer Tyler Kerr says the incident happened in a limited entry hunting zone, where hunters have to apply through the online draw system to get a seasonal tag.
“A bull moose was shot and left in the area northeast of Pennask Lake. We believe it happened in the early-morning hours of October 1st. The conservation officers were able to salvage the moose meat, and that’s going to be donated to the Upper Nicola Band just outside of Merritt here,” Kerr tells NL News.
“It was a two-by-three moose, that would be the tines on the antlers, two brow tines on one, three on the other side.”
Kerr says an adult bull moose can weigh up to a thousand pounds, and he estimates this one killed weighed at least 300 to 400.
Anyone with information of the incident is asked to call the Report All Poachers and Polluters phone line.
