Highway 1 is currently closed in both directions between Cache Creek and Savona because of a crash.
Cpl. Mike Halskov says the incident happened around 3 p.m. this afternoon, about 15 kilometres east of Cache Creek, near Juniper Beach Provincial Park.
“At this time it’s reported to be a two vehicle collision, head on, and it looks to be at this time that it might be a fatal so we can anticipate the highway will be closed for some time as we investigate that particular crash,” Halskov told NL.
RCMP officers from both Clinton and Ashcroft responded to the scene, and Halskov notes it’s too early to say what might have caused the crash, but police expect to have more information by tomorrow at the latest.
Callers to the NL Newsroom say several people are heading back to Savona to go on Tunkwa Lake Road, and then Highway 97C near Logan Lake onto Ashcroft and Cache Creek.
