The federal election is now only days away and the environment has been front and centre for candidates and citizens alike.
Liberal candidate for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, Terry Lake, was on the NL Morning News and said fighting climate change has to be done gradually. “If you move too quickly on climate change so that the economy is disrupted, closing down the oil sands in five or six years as the Greens and NDP want to do, causes huge economic disruption.”
“Guess what? People then are worried about putting food on the table not about the environment.”
Lake also pointed out concern over things like the environment really is situational. “If you’re talking to a family that you can tell doesn’t have as much financial security as they would hope, affordability is a big issue for them so the child benefit is a real topic of conversation with them.”
“But if you go to people with more affluent homes, environment tends to be higher up the list.”
