Real Estate Brokerage Zoocasa did a survey to find out how people’s perceptions of cannabis have changed in the last year.
When it comes to new dispensary businesses opening up in the neighbourhood, Managing Editor Penelope Graham says Canadians are generally feeling more at ease with their presence then they were at the time of legalization. “Dispensaries was one of the positive areas. So we found that a greater number of people, 43% said that they’d be comfortable with a dispensary opening up in their neighbourhood. And that is up from 31% last year, so certainly a positive development there.” Graham says people born after 1980 are less likely to care about a business in the area. “If you’re a millennial you are less likely to care about the presence of such a business in your neighbourhood. Only 24% said that, that would concern them and that’s compared to 43 % of older generations.”
Graham says says there is a bit of a disparity between renters and owners. She says tenants were considerably more comfortable “although homeowners were not significantly more concerned. So we found 56% of reenters said that they’d be comfortable with it versus 36% of homeowners. And obviously that’s coming down to perhaps they feel they have less skin in the game if they’re not owning real estate in the neighbourhood. But, overall we are seeing a more positive perception.”
