The BC Cattlemen’s Association says rural ranchers are getting left behind as the province moves more and more of its requirements online.
Kevin Boon says people in society are now accustomed to having the internet at their fingertips at all times, but the nearly 1,200 ranchers he speaks for face a different reality.
“A good example is the Water Sustainability Act and Licensing. They’ve put that completely online. Well it’s very difficult for some of our producers to be able to adhere to and to comply with being able to do that, when they haven’t got connectivity out in rural B.C.,” Boon says.
“It’s basically as simple as, if the tools and requirement are going to be there for us to do online services, then we need the tools available to us to be able to comply with and participate in that.”
The Cattlemen’s Association has written a letter to local governments in the Kamloops-area asking for support to help get ranchers connected.
