
Back to back shutouts for the Kamloops Blazers on home ice as they keep on rolling in the WHL.
The Blazers offence exploded in the first period, as they beat division rivals Vancouver 6-0 at Sandman Centre on Friday night to stay on top in the BC Division with 14 points in 11 games.
Zane Franklin had three goals – along with an assist – for a four point night, as the Blazers came away with yet another statement win this season, in front of 3,823 fans.
Logan Stankoven opened the scoring at 6:03 of the first period, before Franklin scored his first at 8:24. Quinn Schmiemann rounded out the period with a goal of his own at 17:52.
“I loved the first period,” said Head Coach Shaun Clouston post game.
Martin Lang got in on the action early in the second with the only goal in the period at 3:45. Franklin then scored his second of the night at 1:28 in the third, and completed his hat-trick just one minute later at 2:28.
“Confidence is big thing,” he said post game. “We gain confidence as a group and we just keep going. We keep doing things like that, and the wins will keep coming.”
League leader Connor Zary’s point streak is now at 16 games, as he chipped in with a pair of assists. Schmiemann and Stankoven complemented their goals with an assist each, while Marty Lang had two assists to go with his goal.
Dylan Garand returned to the crease making 23 saves for his sixth win – and first shutout – of the season. David Tendeck, in the Giants net, had 24 saves to take the loss.
The Blazers shutout streak is now at 142:07, having last conceded a goal in the second period of a 5-2 win over Kelowna on October 12.
Kamloops returns to action on Saturday night against the Kelowna Rockets for the third meeting of the season between the two teams. The Blazers have won both games so far this season, and have won eight straight games against their Okanagan rivals.
