After a wild ride on Westsyde Road last week, when a truck owner took matters into his own hands when his truck was stolen, police in Kamloops are encouraged by a more tame recovery of a stolen truck today.
RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says a Chevrolet pick-up was reported stolen on the North Shore last Friday, and says the truck’s owner tracked it down with an App called “My Chevrolet.”
She says the owner reported his truck’s location to police, who then went to the property and made an arrest while recovering the truck. Mounties had watched the truck for about 15 minutes before a man walked up to and tried to get in, and that person was arrested without incident.
Shelkie had put out a message late last week, recommending victims of stolen property to contact police.
“It’s encouraging because the owner got his vehicle back intact, nobody was hurt, there was no damage to property, so yes it worked out very well. And we encourage people who have these types of situations to contact police, first and foremost,” Shelkie says.
A 24-year-old Kamloops man is now custody on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
