Update – The registered owner of the pick-up truck involved in this morning’s fatal collision on 1st Avenue has been arrested by RCMP.
Police though say the investigation is still in its infancy, and the man’s involvement in the collision is still under investigation.
RCMP are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“Specifically, police would like to talk to a female who was on foot at the scene and left shortly after the accident occurred,” said Cpl. Jodi Shelkie.
She says 1st Avenue is still closed and is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
Original – Two people were killed in an early morning crash in Downtown Kamloops on Sunday at 1st Avenue and Battle Street.
Kamloops RCMP say the collision was between a car that had four people in it and a pick-up truck.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says when police officers arrived, they found two people in the car were already dead at the scene. The other two were taken Royal Inland Hospital, one in life-threatening condition and the other with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck had left the area before police got there. Both vehicles were still at the scene.
Police say 1st Avenue will be closed between Seymour Street and Nicola Street as the investigation continues. Battle Street will also be closed from 2nd Avenue to Lee Road.
“Due to the severity of this collision, our investigation could take most of the day,” Shelkie added.
As well, she says if anyone witnessed the incident, or has information about the driver of the pick-up to reach out to them at 250-828-3000.
