The legalization of cannabis is creating jobs in the Kamloops area with the potential to create even more according to BC’s Minister of Jobs.
While appearing on the NL Morning News, Bruce Ralston said legal marijuana is great for the province, especially for the interior. “The government’s view is that we should try and encourage producers to locate in areas outside of the lower mainland.”
“So, I met with the Union of BC Municipalities conference with a company called Sundial Growers which are a Calgary based cannabis producer.”
Ralston pointed to Sundial’s operation in the Merritt area as an example of how the pot business is creating employment. “That’s a totally new opportunity created by the change in national policy on marijuana and so that’s taking place.”
“I think the first phase is slated for occupancy December first. So, 40 full time by the end of the year and 130 by next August.”
Ralston went on to say the facility will employ about 350 people when the planned four phases are complete.
