A non-profit in Kamloops that supports homeless and people in poverty will be opening a winter shelter program in two weeks.
Managing director Mario Borba says the organization located on West Victoria Street is asking the public to donate blankets – ahead of opening on Nov. 27.
“So anytime the community wants to drop off blankets, that would be great. We need to have at least 90 blankets,” Borba says, adding that the shelter has the capacity for 30 people to stay overnight.
He says blankets are not the only item the non-profit is asking to be donated.
“As the snow is falling, people cycle through their clothes more often because they either get wet or soiled. So any winter jackets and socks are very important as well.”
The winter shelter program at the Mustard Seed is opening nearly five weeks sooner than it did last year.
