A third person has died after a two vehicle crash at 1st Avenue and Battle Street in downtown Kamloops 10 days ago.
BC Coroners Service spokesman Andy Watson says a man in his 30’s succumbed to his injuries yesterday, and says his family has been notified. The victim has been identified on social media as Oluwatosin (Kelvin) Adeojo.
There were four people in a car involved in the early-morning crash at 1st Avenue and Battle Street on November 3. Two of them – David Adebowale and Daniel Okocha – were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third – Adeojo – had been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
A fourth person suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital last week.
Families and friends of all three victims Feyisola Adebowale, Daniel Okocha, and Kelvin Adeojo are raising money to help pay for their funerals and other associated costs.
All three also worked at the Coast Sundance Lodge in Sun Peaks.
“We are a tight-knit group at the Coast Sundance Lodge, where it feels like family. We lost loved ones and that news is very difficult to grasp,” the hotel’s general manager James Bingham says.
The crash happened after a blue Ford truck ran a stop sign and hit the other vehicle before the driver fled the scene, according to Kamloops RCMP. A suspect has been identified but no charges have been laid, and no one is in police custody at this time.
The owner of the Ford truck was arrested the day the crash but was later released without charge. Police have not said whether the truck’s owner was behind the wheel when the crash happened, but did say the truck had not been reported stolen.
Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says police have also talked to a passerby who was walking down 1st Avenue at the time of the crash on Sunday morning.
“We would like to thank the media and the public for assisting us in identifying a witness who was on 1st Avenue that night. The police have since spoken with this individual. We are now looking for an unidentified female who assisted in first aid at the scene,” Shelkie says. “This woman was described as wearing a long white coat with black geometric designs on it.”
Shelkie also asks anyone who helped at the scene to phone Kamloops RCMP, if they have not already.
