Work on Victoria Street West is nearing the end point.
Kamloops’ Manager of Capital Projects Darren Crundwell says they were a little worried about the weather and the moisture, but the road was able to get dry enough and he’s not concerned about the quality of the road. “Looking a lot better than it did yesterday. Paving was finished around 5:00. We’re essentially 100% complete on the curb, gutter and paving part of the project which is the most impactful to the public.”
Crundwell says now it’s just finishing some sidewalk and working on the underground power and communications. “We’re not expecting any quality issues with the road. Now it’s just finishing some sidewalks on the north side and a few on the south side and working on the underground power and communications.” Crundwell says there will still be some disruptions. “Most of the major impact is done but there still will be single lane closures along the curb lanes to do sidewalk work and power poles. The contractor is getting pretty concerned with speeding through there, so if the public could pay attention to the 30km/h speed limit through there that would be appreciated.”
Landscaping work will take place in the spring. Crundwell adds that the project was kept right in line with the 13 million dollar budget.
