With the first glimpse of what is to come this winter, the new company in charge of maintaining the Coquihalla is feeling confident they’re up for the job.
Yellowhead Road and Bridge General Manager Dave Duncan said on NL Newsday that his company isn’t new and they are up for the unique challenges that the Coquihalla brings.
“We have been in this business for thirty years. We’re up in Prince George, we’re also down in the Kootenays and we’re very pleased to be on the Coquihalla” he said. “We do recognize that the Coquihalla system presents some unique challenges and we think we’re up for the task.”
Duncan pointed out they have a lot of the operators that have worked in the area with the previous contractor.
“We do have our own people that have come with us to the area, so it’s kind of a blend of old and new and we think that it’s a good combination,” Duncan added.
“We’re getting used to the increased traffic volumes and the higher number of trucks that are out there and we’ve got great crews and we have good equipment and you know we think we’re up for the task.
