10 million dollars worth of budgets cuts to BC’s RCMP is not sitting well with many people especially the opposition’s Public Safety Critic, a former Mountie himself.
Mike Morris appeared on the NL Morning News and didn’t mince words when he was asked if he thought the budget cuts would make BC municipalities less safe. “I think it does, you know and you maybe won’t see it right away and the RCMP put on a game face, they can’t complain about any level of government because of the code of conduct they operate under but I’m not in the RCMP anymore so I can speak on their behalf.”
The 32 year veteran of the force added that will be the case, particularly once fatigue sets in for front line workers. “They’re going to do their best and what’s going to happen if this carries on for several months is we’re just going wear out the men and women that are doing the job right now and they’re the ones that are going to suffer more than the public at the end of the day.”
