Police in Barriere are investigating an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl that happened yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Barriere Town Road and Dunn Lake Road, when the girl was approached by a middle-aged man according to police.
“The man allegedly grabbed the girl by the wrist and she fought back, freeing herself and then ran off,” Barriere RCMP Cpl. Rob Welsman says, adding a police dog was brought in and that police have spoken with people who live nearby.
Some weekend youth events have been impacted or cancelled as a precaution, police say. The Kamloops-Thompson School District has also been notified.
The suspect is described as 40 years old, five-foot-seven, with hazel eyes, short brown hair, and a full beard about four inches long.
The suspect was wearing a grey long-sleeved shirt with black letters and black pants when the incident happened. His identity and location are not known, and Mounties are asking the public to remain vigilant.
Anyone with surveillance or dash-cam footage or any other information on the incident is asked to contact police.
