Police in Kamloops are advising residents to not leave their cars unattended while warming them up after somebody had their vehicle stolen.
Details of the theft – including the location – are unclear, but Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says “warm-up thefts” are common this time of year. She says they typically happen in driveways of peoples homes and at gas stations and convenience stores.
“The inconvenience of having your car stolen is one factor, but this is also a situation where these vehicles can be used in other crimes, hit and runs, and potential break and enters,” she says.
Police also remind drivers to fully clean snow and ice off their windows before heading out.
Shelkie says fines start at $81 for leaving a parked vehicle running as well as for not properly clearing windows of snow or ice.
