When it comes to cutting green house gas emissions, Canada isn’t exactly leading by example at least not according to the BC Sustainable Energy Association.
Gisela Ruckert of the BCSEA was on the NL Morning News and pointed out our country is one of the top ten emitters despite our relatively small population. “The other way to look at it is on per capita basis and and on that level, Canada is absolutely the second largest emitter per capita of GHG emissions in the world.”
Ruckert added while countries like the US and China a far bigger polluters, our country needs to lead by example. “You can say that it’s not important because our emissions aren’t the biggest on a net basis but unless Canada gets behind solid mitigation policy, we aren’t going to see action from other countries like China or India because we have to do what we say before we tell them to do as we say.”
You can hear about the City’s plan of action when they hold a public forum with the BCSEA on this evening.
The event at TRU’s International Building is open to the public and gets going at 7PM.
