The Canada Energy Regulator indicates it will be closely monitoring construction on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion through Kamloops.
Speaking to Kamloops councillors, socio-economic specialist Danielle Prevost says the CER (formerly named the National Energy Board, often called the NEB) will make sure Trans Mountain meets its 156 conditions and other construction commitments.
“We would not likely have inspectors on sight every moment of construction across the entire line, based on our risk-informed model. But definitely we would have inspectors on the ground here.”
The existing pipeline will be twinned through Kamloops except in Westsyde where it runs through a neighbourhood – there the expansion will be routed through Lac du Bois.
“If people want to bring forward to us certain areas of interest or concern, as I mentioned previously… we take a risk-informed approach. So if information comes into us that we really need to pay attention to certain areas, we can incorporate that into our monitoring and oversight plans,” Prevost says.
Construction on the pipeline in Kamloops is expected to start in the summer of 2020.
