A longstanding highway rescue team in the North Thompson is asking for help to keep running.
The non-profit Clearwater and District Road Rescue Society has been going since 1975, but members have asked the Thompson Nicola Regional District to look into potentially taking it over.
“There was a motion put forward (on Thursday) to investigate to take it over, because the girls on the volunteer are overwhelmed by all the new rules and regulations… And the liabilities and stuff,” Vavenby area director Carol Schaffer says. “So we’re asking if the TNRD will take it on.”
The Road Rescue team works with local fire crews and responds to highway crashes from six kilometres of Little Fort to 40 kilometres north of Blue River. It responds to about three-dozen incidents per year on average.
“It goes to all the accidents, it’s got the jaws of life and everything. It’s a safety thing, for accidents and stuff on the highway… There’s a couple of trucks, and they go along with the fire department to help out,” Schaffer says.
