Kamloops city staff say there’s no imminent plans to raise user fees at Tournament Capital Centre despite competition from other fitness facilities.
Community and protective services director Byron McCorkell says about 2,000 people go through the TCC doors each day.
“I don’t think we’re so much about going up, I think it’s more about what packaging can we do that would encourage people to use our buildings in different ways. It may be more coupling of things for the existing price, but that may attract more people to see what we’re offering.”
And he says maintenance costs for equipment are addressed proactively, meaning cost increases wouldn’t happen for that reason.
“Speaking specifically to the TCC, we have a very robust maintenance program there, we’re able to address issues quickly. We have a fairly substantial component of our equipment that we can replace every year, so we’re always trying to make sure people don’t experience broken equipment and equipment that’s needing repair.”
The city saw more than 52,000 fewer visits by members at the TCC in 2018 compared to 2017, partly because of more fitness options in the private sector.
