Police in Revelstoke are confirming that a 52-year-old B.C. man has died after a head-on crash on Highway 1 yesterday.
Revelstoke RCMP Cpl. Thomas Blakney says the victim was heading westbound in a sedan before crashing with an eastbound semi-truck. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
Blakney says it’s believed the sedan crossed the centre line in a slight curve on the highway, leading to the crash about 18 kilometres east of town.
“Weather conditions at the time were described as compact snow with flurries and temperatures of -3 degrees,” he told NL News.
“We’re just reminding motorists that snow continues to fall in the Revelstoke area, and snow will compact on the highway. We’re just advising motorists when they travel to check Drive BC for the road report and weather conditions before they go out anywhere.”
Highway 1 was shut down for more than eight hours because of the crash.
Blakney says it was the first fatal crash on the highway in the Revelstoke area this winter season.
