The mayor of Ashcroft says the village is looking at potentially installing lights and gates at the unguarded CN Rail crossing in north Ashcroft.
Barbara Roden says collisions with trains are not common at the CN Rail crossing in North Ashcroft, however, a man was injured last Thursday.
She says council is looking to see what can be done.
“We actually are right now doing a whistle cessation study for that particular crossing, so we are now waiting for the report which we are expecting in early 2020 to come back,” Roden said. “It will look at what would be needed in terms of safety, barriers, lights, whistles etc, that would need to go in there, and what the costs would be.”
Roden says the CN crossing it is the only one without a gate, unlike the two CP Rail crossings in downtown Ashcroft.
“At night its not a terribly well lit area. There’s no whistles, no bells, no nothing. It’s obviously a concern for the village, and I’m sure it’s a concern to CN,” Roden added. “When we get the results of the investigation, we’ll take a look at what is going to be needed to make that crossing safer for everyone.”
