Environment Canada’s chief climatologist is out with his top 10 weather stories of the year and he says relatively speaking, it was a boring year weather wise for B.C.
Speaking on the Jeff Andreas Show, David Phillips says it was generally quiet in our province compared to the last couple of years when we saw terrible forest fire seasons.
“Not a lot of floods, we’ve seen that in the past, or major events. So my sense is it balances out, but what I’ve seen I think… greater extremes. We’re seeing that storms seem to be stormier, more intense.”
Some of the top weather events for B.C. in 2019 include a March heat wave, a late-winter drought lessening the risk of flooding, the Eagle Bluff fire and record lightning.
Stories on the list include the Ottawa River flood in the spring, the late October storm in Quebec that saw communities postpone Halloween and the polar vortex that swept across Canada in February.
