Anyone who owns a vehicle is advised to be prepared and keep an emergency kit on hand.
BCAA Spokesperson Josh Smythe says there are important things to keep in that kit especially in the event that you experience a lengthy wait. “We want to prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. So, some highly visible outerwear in the event that you do need to leave the vehicle. Some extra warm clothes in the event that your car doesn’t run and you do need to stay warm for a little length of time. Also making sure your batteries are charged. Keep some fresh ones, every year in there in case you need them.”
Smythe adds to keep some non-perishable food in that kit. Some water. Jumper cables. “Some safety cones are important. Jumper Cables. Some extra windshield washer fluid in the event that you run out half way through your travel. That is often important. Some non-perishable food and some water in case the stay is a little lengthy.”
He also recommends fully charging your phone before you hit the road and it’s always advisable to make someone aware of your travel plans. A candle and shovel could also come in handy.
