The Chair of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts Society says they continues to grow, with over 4,000 people having purchased the $2 membership in the past six months.
Norm Daley says the society is doing its best to address any community concerns about the proposed new Performing Arts Centre downtown.
“Overall it’s been very positive and I was actually part of the thing in 2015 as well when we put forward the Performing Arts Centre. There’s a totally different vibe as far as I’m concerned. Most of the emails I get start with ‘thanks for taking this project on.’ People are phoning and saying, ‘thanks for taking this project on.'”
The referendum will ask residents if they are in favor of the city borrowing up to $45 million to build the facility and Daley is hoping Kamloopsians will vote yes this time around.
“You know really getting the awareness out there and having community engagement as to what this building is, what the process is with the referendum leading up to April 4. We’ve got great momentum as we move forward to what I’m hopeful will be a yes vote on this project.”
Daley believes the attitude towards the project has changed when compared to four years ago, when a referendum was defeated.
“What that says to me is that people are engaged, people are understanding what this is and they are understanding that we need this facility in the community. I’m really excited about it. When you look at that project and what it brings to Kamloops, we just have to make sure that it does happen.”
