With the new year on the horizon, The North Shore Business Improvement Association is hoping to get a lot done.
Speaking on the NL Morning News, Executive Director Jeremy Heighton, said he’s hoping they get a little help, “We do have 34 projects in front of city staff right now that we’re hoping to get done in the next two years or so. We’re willing to put some cash into it, we’re hoping the city will be able to help with some of that as well.”
“We want to make sure we’re balancing development in the city. You know there’s a ton of work that’s gone into the downtown core but not a ton of work that’s gone into the North Shore corridor.”
“It’s a big shift for the city but there’s also Valleyview, there’s also Sahali. There’s a lot of competing areas for funding.”
Heighton noted with all of these areas competing for funding and hopes to sit down with the city to see what the NSBIA can fund and what need some help with, “It’s a big shift for the city but there’s also Valleyview, there’s also Sahali. There’s a lot of areas competing for funding.”
“So what we’re trying to do with the city is we’re trying to say, look here’s a list of projects what can we fund, what can you fund and what can we work in partnerships and try to find a different way to get stuff done.”
As far as the NSBIA’s plans go, Heighton said. “The city of Kamloops actually will be launching their ‘North Shore Community Neighbourhood Planning’ process next spring some time. That process will look at the whole cosmopolitan nature of the neighbourhood. It’ll look at some specifics around commercial corridors and stuff like that. There are some design elements that come out of those plans that we’re currently working with in the old iteration that we hope to bring forward in the new.”
