The city’s capital projects manager expects 2020 to be a busy construction season in Kamloops.
Darren Crundwell says work will resume on the Victoria Street West project for one, but he says that’s not all the capital work that is planned.
“We have Tranquille that we want to start as soon as possible, the main sanitary replacement. We’ve got the Canada Games Pool Project. We’re also going to be doing a lot of work on McGill because TRU needs some infrastructure moved, and that’s causing us to do a bunch of work. We’ve got Barnhartvale Road we’re going to be doing. We’ve got a bunch of work at Sandman Centre too.”
Crundwell says while there’s been a healthy amount of new construction in Kamloops, he says it’s important to the maintain older buildings like the TCC and Sandman Centre to extend their lifespan.
“These facilities are 30 years old. I even look at that and kind of go, that’s not 30 years old. We’re doing work on a 30 year old building. They’re well maintained, but they need some renovations now, and they need some replacement of critical items, and those are the things that we are starting to see more and more of, in addition to the civil projects.”
The city will be finishing up the largest capital project in its history this spring – the improvement project to West Victoria Street, which is valued at $13.5 million.
